K Dixon 1947 Journal June 28. 2 mi W FT Howells, 1000 ft., Powder River Co., Montana. Sparrow. Walked west along edge of pine and descended to area N.D. camp. Noted 2 pairs of Chihuahuas chasing PT on several occasions. Unable to get shot before birds flew again. Took White-breasted Nuttall's (No 77) and Dark Sparrow in area of open pine growth on steep slopes. Went down to am at noon, taking pair of Redwings in territory upstream from that I did taken June 27 (No 74). Bat flew over pool at camp at dusk. June 29. 2 mi W Ft. Howells DS., 4000 ft., Powder River Co., Montana Sunny morning, partly cloudy. Went downstream at 7:45 AM. Noted 3 Redwings in territory occupied by 3 (No 74) which was taken 2 days ago. Collected Bronzed Grackle in same tree in which that Redwing was taken. Collected Yellow Warbler 6 in ash 100 yards upstream. Took Hairy Woodpecker drumming in cottonwood in camp at 10:00 AM. Collected Crossbill in pines south of camp at 3:30 PM. Flushed 4 (7) Chipping Sparrow from nest 1 ft above ground in Artemesia on creek bank at edge of meadow - 3 eggs inside. Took Eastern Kingbird at 7:15 PM in cottonwood 3/4 mile downstream.
