Caecilian Hacienda Zapotitán, 1500', Dept. La Libertad, El Salvador May 9, 1942 #1657 Caught a caecilian under a log. The log was only about 4 ft. long, partially rotten. The caecilian was on top of the ground, which was damp but not soggy. It moved very slowly, but showed a great deal of strength, coiling about a clump of grass at the edge of the depression left by the log, & holding fast to it with the anterior half of the body. The color is a medium lead gray above, Robin's egg-blue below. The blue changed to dirty gray after about 1/2-hrs. in 9-1 formalin sol'n. The cloacal aperture was white. The costal lines are black below, & do not meet, for the most part, those on the r.t. side being anterior to those on the left- aut.
