Demay, D.S. 1942 Cinclus mexicanus Water Ouzel May 28. Cedar Grove, S. Fork Kings R., 4600 ft., Fresno Co., Calif. Saw two water ouzels fly from beneath bridge over river at about 8:30 A.M. They flew low over the water, with rapid wingbeats. Later, saw two ouzels at dam on E. fork of Sheep Creek, at about 5000 ft. One flew upstream toward falls above dam, then downstream again. Flew upstream again, entering crevice under rock beside falls, and walking back under falls. A few seconds later, it again came downstream. Returned to crevice under rock with something in bill. Flies straight, with rapid wingbeats, low over the water. Another ouzel walked rapidly up rock on W. side of falls, and flew away upstream. The ouzel from downstream flew to crevice again, then returned downstream. The other bird came back from above falls, and entered crevice. Then it flew across falls to rock, walked a few steps, bobbed up and down, and again took off upstream. Returned to Sheep Creek Dam at 2:15 P.M. After 5 min. an ouzel flew upstream and entered crevice under rock on E. side of falls. Came out at once, and flew off downstream.
