Derby, J. S. 1942 Sceloporus undulatus Spiny Lizard May 23. Cedar Grove, S. Fork Kings R., 4600 ft., Fresno Co., Calif. (26). One of the large Sceloporus on the N. E. side of the river was finally noosed on an old stump. It is in beautiful colors, metallic blue on the ventral side, and blue-green in spots on the back. Several others were seen, but would not let the observer come within 10 or 15 feet of them. They seem very alert, and disappear quickly on the other side of the log or rock when you approach them. Even from their refuge in a crack, they keep a sharp eye on you, and go down a hole or into another crack when disturbed. (This species is called undulatus by Burt in his "Key to the Lizards", but may be the same as "occidentalis").
