DeMay, D.S. 1942 Journal June 1. Cedar Grove, S. Fork Kings R., 4600 ft., Fresno Co., Calif. (cont.) Hiked to West end of road past Sheep Creek Camp, and returned along South bank of river, through dense grove of young cedars and pines. Chickarees and Gray Squirrels seen running. Skunk with orange throat, blue tail, and light longitudinal stripes on a darker green back seen gone under fallen cedar log in shady grove of small cedars, red dogwood, and bracken ferns. Came out and looked at me several times, but went back under log whenever I moved. Water ouzel seen flying down river. Tracks of a mammal found in moist sand at edge of river. Five toes showing; palms horseshoe shaped. Caught gartersnake (55) near camp while setting pocket gopher traps. Heard Bigmy Owl calling this evening near camp. Weather clear and cool, but not cold. Another Phalangid of the same type as before found on sleeping bags this evening. Fell on ground and could not be located. June 2. Cedar Grove, S. Fork Kings R., 4600 ft., Fresno Co., Calif.
