De May 1st. 1942 Journal May 28. Cedar Grove, S. Fork Kings R., 4600 ft., Tuolumne Co., Calif. All of us set traps on S-facing slope on N.E. side of river, beyond main road. All empty, except one of Mr. Dixon's, which contained a Beromycus. Two water ouzels seen flying over river near bridge. May have nest under bridge. Steller jays and dies in camp. Robins quite bold. Another water ouzel (pair) seen at dam on E. side of Sheep Creek. Deer tracks all along trail. Watched nest of Calliope Hummingbird, near falls, for about two hours. Went back to dam and watched water ouzels for about an hour. Returned to camp, where we saw a black-headed grosbeak in an oak. Caught a couple of lizards and looked at the water ouzel's (?) nest under the bridge. Returned to Calliope hummer's nest with Marie to look at the contents of the nest. The two eggs have hatched, and the young are small and black, with orange mouths wide open. May 29. Cedar Grove, S. Fork Kings R., 4600 ft., Tuolumne Co., Calif. Took trail, with Mr. Dixon, west of Sheep Creek, and went up to Lookout Peak. Left about 8:15 A.M. Rufull flycatcher heard. Hermit Warbler (yellow head and black throat). In snow area heard and saw a creeper. Spring Geanthes.
