De May 2d. 1942 Journal May 25. Cedar Grove, S. Fork Kings R., 4600 ft., Fresno Co., Calif. (cont.) Garter snake collected (39). Townsend solitaire on tree above river; 9 tanagers. At Zumwalt Meadow, apple trees (planted), and many rose bushes (wild?). Bear droppings, near talus. Strawberries (?) in bloom; many willows; thimble-berry. Another Sceloporus undulatus. Creek dogwood (red), beginning to bloom. Willows with catkins. Swifts seen over meadows. Woodrat droppings in talus, under large boulder. Many redwing blackbirds in meadow. Sedges; pentelemon; rushes; tall grasses, dandelions. Meadow very wet and marshy. Saw two small garter snakes in grass. Black swifts over meadow. Shooting stars. Chasin rivers on trail back. Places scratched in grass by deer. Bear droppings about 100 ft. from camp, probably less than a day old. Found by Mrs. Grinnell. May 26. Cedar Grove, S. Fork Kings R., 4600 ft., Fresno Co., Calif.
