26 June Squaw Valley, 6200 ft., Placer Co., Calif.
had very orange hills. Only butterflies were saepiolus
blues & sulfurs. Tony got a ♀ acmon blue + I got a
♂ Anthocaris (both worn). By the road saw some
(? Cliff) Swallows, 2 Brown-headed cowbirds, a ♂♀(nesting)
Mt. Blue birds, several Casin finches, and 2 pigeons
(one a band-tail I think). Got home to find another
chipmunk in a trap, this one in an open area pine.
Spoiled it somewhat when I put it up. It takes about
1/2 hours now. A few birds around. Tomorrow may
go around hike Tahoe.
27 June Nevada Side Lake Tahoe, Nevada
left 6 traps out last night, nothing. Saw a green-tailed
towhee while checking traps + a good sized ♀(? trofos)
hummer, about 9AM another similar but smaller ♂. Went
around L. Tahoe starting at Nevada side. Saw some
shore birds in flats at Tahoe City. At a beach about 1/4
mi. W. Sand Harbor's St. [illegible] Park (Nevada) we stop-
ped for a while. Butterflies scarce. Got 2 ♂♀ Erynnis,
a ♂♂ Chlosyne palla, Nymphali californico, saw many
Papilis eurymedon (worn) + a few rutulus, a white,
Limenitis longini + hedowii; a few frits (Spylecia
coronis ♀ taken), and many moths. Many found a dead
Sceloporus in the lake. Birds scarce, mostly Steller
jays but sawa fringilid + one Wilson warbler.
Also saw a few chipmunks + plain brownish ground
squirrels. At Sandy Pt. State Park saw Steller
Jays, Oregon j-nco's, 2 White-Br. N-thatchers and
