Paul DeBenedictis 1960 Dec 22 San Blas, Nayarit to Guadalajara, Jalisco. morning cleaning up and writing notes etc. Wandering around I got a Julis, a ?columbella hairstreak, and a shipper, and saw many buckeyes and a couple of Papilios. I tried shooting Cuemis sling but the rocks were weve too light and the just bounced off the lizards. About 2:30-3. we finally got off for Guadalajara. We got a heplocliva maculata from some boys in San Blas for a peso. We stopped at the east end of the island San Blas is on and looked at a sea turtle one of the jungle guiter had caught. He wanted to sell it to us for 30 pesos, but we decided we couldn't take care of it, so we left it. The road up from San Blas, is as impres- sive as ever, and I really want to work along it. There is swamp, marsh, banana plantation, broad leaf forest, grassy & shrubby fields, Rivers, small streams, everything! We saw two other snakes today; Brian saw a ?leptophis by the hotel and we saw a datula at the spot where the sea turtle was. The sea turtle was of the smooth shelled type, with this costals touchels touching, & 2 pairs of broad plates dorsally (?lepidochelys), about 3 feet--shell length, and heavily encrusted with goose-neck barnacles, which Elvey collected. I was in the back of the truck and slept most of the way to Guadalajara, but since it was dark anyway, it didn't matter too much. We stopped and ate some tacos in Guadalajara, and camped a few miles beyond.
