Mugged in Catamaco
Oct. 22 Ted and Dan and I went into town to walk the streets. I wasn't feeling comfortable in the streets, so I went down to the lake-front to walk the wall and continue along the path to the east of town. I came upon four Mexican teenagers who stopped to talk. They quickly ascertained that I knew no Spanish and began to show an interest in my lantern. I realized I might be in trouble but before I could do anything, one guy grabbed my lantern while another pushed me. I went flying over the wall and down into mud six feet down. I had held on to the lantern. The brute ran away. I pulled myself over the wall and waited for Ted and Dan. My lucky night - two drunks came by, one with a machete. I quickly excused myself to find a safer part of town. Dave came by to pick us up at ~10:15 P. We returned to Playa Azul where Dave had found a B. pellet.
We had a few beers before retiring in honor of services. I'll have to think long and hard before collecting in town at night in the future.
