Parad, D. 1981 Journal Mexico Oct. 22 We stayed at Playa Escandida for the morning. It was raining quite heavily when I got up at 9:00 A. The rain let up by about 10:00 A. Tried to do a little bird watching, but not much was active. We found a small gecko on the edge of the dining patio. At 1:00 P. we went to visit the biological station nearby (UNAM). Dick Voigt, an American turtle researcher just recently employed here, gave us a short tour. They have a small zoo - turtles, crocs., yaguarundi (sp.), coati, and a botanical garden which consists of a trail with labeled trees. The station is rapidly expanding. They are constructing many new housing complexes in which researchers will live. On their small collection, we saw a Bolitoglossa which was probably a matreana, but had an almost gelstodyte pattern on the back. After the tour we drove back towards Cotomaco and stopped for ~ 1hr. at a cafetal to walk laranas - no salamanders, one snake (Rhiginia). We decided to stay again at Playa Azul.
