Daryl, D. 1981 Journal Mexico Oct. 16 Oaxaca and planned the next four days. Oct. 17 Got up at 7:00 A. Ate breakfast at the Hotel Margarita. Spent about 45 min. at the Oaxaca market. This was much too short of a time to actually see the large market. I bought some black pottery made in a small village outside the city. The smallest pieces were ~20 pesos. One vendor slaved a shot of tequila with Don Jim, and me. We then left town and once again headed SW toward Lolo de Vega and Pto. Escendido. This is Hwy. 131 and becomes a dirt road at a point when a river must be forded. This point is also the turn off for San Vicente Cachipio, which is up the river about 26 miles. On yesterday's entry I stated that we turned off of 131, but in fact this road does go to Pto. Escendido despite its terrible condition. It is passable. Today we returned to the site beyond the ford to the point where we collected Peaud. marinii in the roadside yesterday. No luck. We also worked some yamona plants dry tearing back the outer leaves in hopes of macruri. Again
