Dada, D. 1983 Journal 5 Dec. Puebla to Amecameca Up at ~7:00, breakfast at the hotel. Exchanged money - me $200 dollars and Patty $140 dollars at a rate of ~ 157 pesos/ dollar. Left the hotel, got gas and headed west on the cueta. The car seemed to have little power. Arrived in Amecameca in early afternoon. We got gas and then the car died on me as we left the Perez. A nearby mechanic got it running again for 100 pesos. We tried to find ice in town, but had no luck. As we figured we had enough ice to last, we headed east toward the ridge between Popocatepetl and Ixtaccihuatl. This road joins 115 just ~1 km. south of Amecameca. We climbed to over 3000 m. at the Paso de Cortez at the top of the ridge. This is a national park area, but nobody at the gate stopped me to check us out. Patty scouted for gopher mounds. Both Thomasays and Popogeomyza occur here. Patty was trapping for Thomasay undrains for zoological work. She set out several traps before dark.
