Dada, D. 1983 Journal 19 Nov. road is very bad and we didn't get far. 4-wheel drive is needed. The whole area is very dry and desert-like. Hard to believe that salamanders exist. Even looking high into the surrounding mountains it seems dry. Perhaps on the opposite face? Along the main road we saw two large lizards cross quickly in front of us -- probably Bauranulius. Also saw some Cnemido glonus along a river just before Cucutlan. I also was very lucky with a beautifully striped penter. We then continued what seemed like a long drive to Oaxaca and arrived at the Hotel Margarita at dusk. We checked in, showered, and went to the beautiful main square for dinner. The mole is great! Went to sleep ~ 10:30 P. - very tired and with few animals. 20 Nov. Up at 7:00, breakfast at hotel. Meet an ornithologist from Pennsylvania and his wife. Drive north on Hwy. Hwy. 175 toward Tlaltenango. Collected for ~ 1 hr. 1.9 km. W (rd.) of La Cumbre Election Day
