Darda, D 1980 Journal Hastings Reservation Field Trip Nov. 21 The second mammalogy class field trip to Hastings Natural History Reservation got underway as we left Berkeley at ~10:30 A. I was in a car with Robert Dail and Paul. Robert was driving. We drove south on CA-17 to San Jose where we picked up U.S.-101 south. We got off of 101 in Salinas by way of the "Monterey Peninsula" exit and after ~2 miles, picked up CA-68 west. From 68, after ~10 miles, we turned south on Laureles Grade and drove for ~7 mi. and turned south on Carmel Valley Road. We stayed on this road for about 17 miles and turned left into Martin Rd. (at about milepost 26.0). About 50 yards up Martin Rd. was a gate on the left posted "Hastings Reservation". After driving thru the gate and continuing on a dirt road for about a mile, we came to the various buildings of the reservation. These included a dumbbros, lab, office, small museum, dorm, shade, and several houses for permanent staff + scientists. The habitat was Mediterranean with rolling, grassy hills, with clumps of oak trees, and chaparral.
