1982 Journal Ensetein - Noble cabin Feb. 6 and would probably be impossible without 4-wheel drive at this time of year. The temperature was much warmer day this day - probably in the 40's. Quite nice to work in. Next, we went up to lines 9N, 9S, and 9E up on Avery Hill (north of the town). Up here on the ridge, the snow was quite deep near the road, right on top of the ridge, but less deep away from the crest. In trap 7 in 9S, we found a xanthopsin. In number 20 of 9N, there was a hybrid with a dark band. In trap 22 of 9E there was a galatinis. A dead shrew was found in trap 21 of 9E. I kept it for Rick Warner to look at MVZ. Some cans were quite wet and a few had standing water in them. 4-wheel drive was needed to get to those lines far. The next and last trap line to check was line 5 below Hunter Reservoir. Again, the roads were bad. We found no animals in line 5. Much snow hindered locating cans. One shrew was found and kept. We then returned to the cabin to warm feet and dry out. Alexander was very cooperative all day. Ron stayed with him most of the time.
