Danda, D. 1980 Journal Dagelan Creek Field Trip Oct. 4 The class left at ~2:00 P. to go to the desert. We drove north on Calif. 89 about ~20 mi. to Diarraville, then east on Calif. 49 about ~25 mi. to Vinton, then east on Calif. 70 about ~2 mi. to Chilcoot. From [illegible] Chilcoot we took Calif. 284 for about 1 mi. north and turned east into a dirt road and continued in that direction for about 1 mi. The area was high desert with mostly sageweed and higher rocky areas. Our locality was: California, Plumas Co., 1.1 mi. (rd.) N + 1 mi. (rd.) E of Chilcoot, 5280 ft. elev.. I set 15 mouse specials (baited as usual with rolled oats and peanut butter) around large rocks and sageweed: 8 - rocks + 7- sageweed. I also set 20 Sherman Traps with Tom, another member of the class, in similar habitat, baited with dry rolled oats. I then returned to SCFS for the night. Before going to bed, I took a walk along Dagelan Road about .5 mile west of SCFS. With my flashlight I spotted a male mule deer and a Peromyscus along the road. They were both blinded by my light and remained still for several seconds.
