Dava, D. 1981 Journal Movies Nov. 5 The "Puebla - 150" signs we made very good time and would have driven out of town safely, but we were stopped by a police car with three cops. I was driving and didn't realize that I had done anything wrong. I hadn't. The neighbor said that the VW bus was only for passengers and said that our luggage was cargo. It was soon apparent that he wanted money from us and was merely initiating a cargo. We bargained down from 2000 pesos to 25 American dollars. Luckily Dube now spoke and could communicate with him - the bastard! We got back on the road and drove back to Oaxaca, checked into the Grand Hotel d'France (after being refused at the Trucla), ate at the hotel, and turned in very tired. I called dad about my mother's surgery. Nov. 6 Up at ~ 6:00 A. We drove west on Mex. Hwy. 150 D (toll) toward a locality used by Jim Hansen. It is near El Bano which I believe is in the state of Veracruz near the Puebla border (see map).
