Darda, D. 1980 Journal Daylon Creek Field Trip Oct. 3 grass deletet. As with the earlier Eutamiae, both of these animals were caught by the dogs and had to be killed. We learned that this was unusually late in the year for Zapus to be out. It is usually in hibernation for the winter by this time. After having checked the traps we returned to SCFS. I prepared a study skin from the Eutamiae and turned in. Oct. 4 I got up at 7:00 A. Robert and I checked our trapline at ~9:00A. We had kept the traps in the same locality as yesterday. We caught one Peromyscus maniculatus in the pine-rock habitat. We also helped Ed Hocker check pocket gopher traps he had set yesterday. Two pocket gophers (Thomomys monticola) were caught. Upon returning to SCFS I put up both Peromyscus we had trapped. Robert made study skins of both the Zapus and a Thomomys. Robert and I had left 13 traps out in hopes of collecting a Eutamiae, but when we checked those at ~1:45 P. they were empty and we removed the traps.
