Panda, D. 1981 Journal Mexico Oct. 31 up . We got back on the new toll road (new 190) and continued toward Puebla. From [illegible] Puebla we took Mex. Hwy. 150 P (toll) to Oaxaca. We got into Oaxaca at ~ 6:00 P, and checked into the Grand Hotel de France. We ate supper at the hotel, planned out the next week's itinerary, and turned in early. Nov. 1 Up at ~ 7:00 A. and ate breakfast at the hotel. We drove west toward Jutiapa on old Mex. Hwy. 150 and stopped at Cuautlapan. Here we found Carlos Coran who has been keen to zoologists working in this area for many years. He knew Smith and Taylor when they studied the larks of Mexico; Jim Kaiser "rediscovered" Carlos Coran later. He knows all the local palamarda species and how and where they can be found. At 78 he is still hard to keep up with as he guided us up Cerro Chicalhuartla. Carlos and his brother Miguel can be found by turning off of 150 just beyond the Benos, following this street to its end, turning right, and following it to the end. Carlos and two younger guys took us up Chicalhuartla. It was a climb of ~ 1 than 15 mins to get almost to the top. Upon entering a forested area near the top, we worked immediately. Here,
