Banks (1957) Melospiza melodia 34, 10 May 1957 Stream S of LS 13, Nest R A.B. reports less yesterday & this morn'g. S. of Naval Research, Nest & U A. G. reports a Stellar Jay around nest during the day of May 8. At 1530 +, there were 3 young, jay was nearby. Was chased once by parents, but returned. It was about when he left. When I was there at 1640, nest was empty. Smallest one was gone first. Fourth egg hatched 3 May acc. to A.G. W of Naval Research, Nest T A.G. saw the nest destroyed by a Stellar Jay (ie. young taken) about 1330 hrs. He salvaged one of the young, R-1, which he kept and fed all afternoon and gave to me at 1600. Reserved it as 194. 11 May No nests to check. 14 May Stream W of LS 13, Nest R. A.G. reports only one egg left today 15 May Today this nest was found completely destroyed. 22 May S of Naval Research As I walked past the area of Nest U, a bird began chipping alarmedly. Finally it settled down in brush along top of Banks. Flushed the bird from the middle of the two big trees. Did not find nest - yet.
