Banks (1957) Melospiza melodia 37. 6 May, 5,6 Naval Research, Nest 4 out on flank, and in post abdominal. eyes open. L-3 (9.7) gms, 8th Prim, 3mm. Some sheaths from all tracts out, not many on thigh + lower back, or flank. L-1 5.9 gms, 8th Prim, 2 mm. land on back, could not right itself. Prim, t see, all out. Some humeral to jaw mid-back sheaths out. No others. All birds laid quietly if I waved my hand over the nest, but as soon as I touched it by touching it, all popped up like jack-in-the-boxes, with mouths wide open. 7 May, 0200 R-3 8+, 8.1+ gms. 8th Prim, 5mm. Eyes open. Some sheaths out on all tracts but thigh. L-1 5.6 gm. 8th Prim, 3-mm. No thigh, flank, or crown sheaths out. Eyes not open. L-3 8.9 gm 8th Prim, 5 mm. Same as R-3, Eyes not open. R-1 8.3, gm. 8th Prim, 5mm. Eyes open. A few thigh sheaths out, otherwise like R-3. U of Naval Research, Nest 1 0718 A.G. reports yesterday at 1430 still legs. L-3 3.1 gm. Humans + back show dark spots, cast, ventral tract & shows dark. L-1 3.0 - gm. Same as L-3 R-1 3.2 gm. Same, R-3 1.8 gm. [illegible] dark areas not as [illegible] dark as on others.
