Banks 1957 Melospiza melodia 28 3 May, W of Naval Research A nest in a clump of Rubus was shown to me by Andrew Giovannini. It has 4 eggs. He found it 1 May, P.M. Callit T. S of Naval Research, West U 4 May S. of Naval Research, West U 0655 L-3 3.2 gm. R-1 3.3 gm. R-3 3.1 gm. L-1 2.5 gm. - squeaked while weighing. L-1 is new bird hatched since yesterday morning. Guess it will have to be unknown. It appears no different than others, is heavily downed. All birds have primaries showing as buds, dark spots on crown and back. E of Men's Fac. Club, West U 0640 L-1 in nest. Jumped from my hand repeatedly. Took him to take back to lab. (N'2) Somehow got out of my pocket, just as I was writing this, I saw him on ground, but he got away into Rubus. Could not find or get him. S. of Naval Research, West U 1835 R-1 4.7 t gm. L-3 5.0 gm. R-3 4.8 gm. L-1 3.2 gm. On all but L-1, primaries just ready to break thru skin.
