Banks (1957) Melospiza melodia 17 11 April S.of Naval Research, Nest X Plain. 14.0 gm. Prin.27, out 4-13 m. Body well feathered, Pre-eye feathers on crown not yet out. Much down remaining. Gaped, then gave putest note when pulled from nest. Banded 24/180395 on right leg. Left, 13.2 gm. Prin. 20, out 2-5 mm. Gave series of protest notes when taken from nest, again when taken from balance. Really disturbed parents. Very few crown feathers thru sheaths, and wing feather sheaths are still prominent. Back well feathered. Banded 24/180306 on left leg. Defecated during banding, new out. 12,7 w/band. Right, 15.2 gm. Prin, 24 out 7-13 mm. Crown stripe well developed. All crown feathers have at least broken thru sheaths, some not far. Sheaths not evident on body or wing feathers. Banded 24/180307 on right leg. Left toe clipped bird by far most active. Right least active. E of Man's Far. Club, Nest W Another egg now, this one normal. Marked?2 S.of Naval Research, Nest X 1845th, Right, 17.2 gm. Prin. 25 mm. at 1/5, all feathers except a very few on crown appear completely out. Few are in sheath, but broken. Stripes on throat's breast plain. Head stripe plain. Sits on feet. Put black band on left leg.
