Banks (95) Melospiza melodia 9. 5 April. NW side Wheeler Hall - investigated lee + N side for nest of bird singing at NE corner. No luck. E side Wheeler Hall Bird singing around here. Squaking in area produced a pair of sparrows, one of which appeared to have food in its mouth. While searching the bushes found what may be the start of a nest - not sure, also not sure it is this species or Spotted Towhee also in area. Aroused no & ire in bushes, but 8 one time approached me + sang a little extra violently. Stream E of Union ggs Fountain Saw a bird - a quiet one - along stream a little E of here. In dense clump of bushes lee - Palus tother stuff, found an empty nest - this year's I think. Looks large for song sparrow but maybe not. No birds around while I was at nest. Stream E of Union, E small bridge. From here can hear a bird both upstream + downstream. Downstream, an excited bird (?) by large bush (small tree) overhanging stream. 8 flew to this area + sang. Upstream bird is close to walk (N-South) W of Weir Fac. club. (Probably one noted several days ago.) With heavy brush + steep bank, must give up hope of finding downstream nest.
