Melospiza melodia
8.
4 April.
Between Pelican Blf. + Eschmann Hall
A bird was singing from several spots in
this area, as well as E of Pelican Blf. There is
a huge thick bank of bushes along the stream
here - an impenetrable jungle. I nosed
around for quite a while aroused no
excitement and flushed no F.
Stream 3, of LSB, Nest 2
Marked - 15.2 gm, Prim, 14 mm.
Unmarked - 12.3 gm, Prim, 10 mm.
The marked larger bird this morning was beginning
to break feathers out of sheaths. Primaries
had tufts of down on and off feathers - Maybe two
out of sheaths.
1745: Marked bird - flash feathers out of sheaths
1mm, light tan. Secondary coverts almost out,
some back feathers. 1 Primary coat out, some
on leg. Unmarked bird - A few back feathers
just barely out. Eyes of both are well open.
Both clutch my hand, chirp thraciously to nest.

Unmarked 12-12 1/2 mm Prim 12.3 gm.
Flash feathers out of sheaths, as are those on
middle back. Secondary coverts mostly out
up to 1 mm. Have very harsh fright notes when
lifted from nest. Repeated in my hand,
reweighed, Weight 11.8

Feck feathers coming out. Primaries sheathes broken on
end. Most all flash + flash feathers out. Alula out 2-3mm.
Secondary coverts + all proximal wing feathers out.
Gaped once in my hand. Very quiet in hand, but
shivered - from fright or cold?
