" " 4mm Primaries are out on these birds to the extent shown. These data for 1815 hrs. The first one, clipped on left third toe, close to the nest when I pulled it out of the nest. The other didn't that I noticed. Crawled very actively in my hand, and could remain erect very well. Eyes are not open. This nest is 3 ft above ground, and is tilted about 45°, so both lids are in one edge. 3 April Clipped bird - 10.4 gm, Prim, 8mm. Unmarked " - 9.0 gm., " 5mm. 0645. Eyes of longer bird open barely. Feathers are out over all tracts except the anterior most part of the head. All are out a minimum of 2mm. (estimated, not measured). None have broken sheaths yet. Much down still on bodies. Both birds clinging to nest as I removed them. No defecation noticed. Both birds active on balance. No gaping observed, no sounds. Apparently have developed lean reaction already. Stream N/LSB, E part There is a singing bird around the bend of this stream, has been for a long while. I looked all over today, cannot find another bird, or a mate, or any sign of nesting activity. I poked around all bushes + weeds, could arouse no excitement from him, could not scare up another bird.
