Melospiza melodia
16 Feb. 1957
Upper Sth. Field, Bancroft near Uva, Berkeley
One bird singing about center of this section, on wire atop wall. Flew into
bushes along wall and continued to sing
from top of a bush. Can faintly hear
another singing somewhere behind Methodist
church. The bird in this area may
well be the one seen here regularly for
the past few weeks, mostly nearer
corners. No evidence of a mate.
Opposite Police building, Campus Berkeley
A bird singing on hedge here.

Did not try to observe any of them carefully.
16 March
Near Pres. Home, U.C. Campus, Berkeley
A bird singing bee at 5:15 P.M., at E. side of
Bldg. Another along Rd. to S. of house, by
wide spot. Singing in low growth near
privet hedge.
Wooden bridge E. of Dierami Hall, Campus Berkeley, Calif.
A bird sang from bush directly opposite the E.
end of this bush, bridge. Another bird was feeding
a short distance away on the ground, in the same
patch of bushes. After I sang, both were feeding.
A few minutes later I sang from S. along W. side of creek.
