Banks 1957 Melospiza melodia 16 Feb. 1957 Upper Sth. Field, Bancroft near Uva, Berkeley One bird singing about center of this section, on wire atop wall. Flew into bushes along wall and continued to sing from top of a bush. Can faintly hear another singing somewhere behind Methodist church. The bird in this area may well be the one seen here regularly for the past few weeks, mostly nearer corners. No evidence of a mate. Opposite Police building, Campus Berkeley A bird singing on hedge here. 9 March 1957 U.C. Campus: Saw song sparrows this morning at these places: Parking lot on Bancroft next to Unitarian church. Near Police Bldg. House S of Cornell Hospital on College Rd. SE corner Woman's Fac. Club. Front of President's home Did not try to observe any of them carefully. 16 March Near Pres. Home, U.C. Campus, Berkeley A bird singing bee at 5:15 P.M., at E. side of Bldg. Another along Rd. to S. of house, by wide spot. Singing in low growth near privet hedge. Wooden bridge E. of Dierami Hall, Campus Berkeley, Calif. A bird sang from bush directly opposite the E. end of this bush, bridge. Another bird was feeding a short distance away on the ground, in the same patch of bushes. After I sang, both were feeding. A few minutes later I sang from S. along W. side of creek.
