Journal 28 January 1956 H. Song Sparrow, 2407 Atherton, just off Channing singing peculiar chipping note. One or both fanned tail broadly. White Crowned Sparrow singing across street. A singing Song Sparrow in tree on Channing just opposite entrance of Atherton. Song Sparrows front of Wozni's Club, Durant St. English Sparrows nesting or at least claiming territory under tiles on roof. Cedar Waxwings feeding on Stoneacre by Man's Gym. Robins also. Brown Towhee in street. Small flock (40 44 ±) White Crowned Sparrow feeding in grass by Alvarita's S.W. corner Man's Gym. California Jay also there. Oregon Juncos feeding inside LSB. Seen only on sunny side of shade line. 1 Andalusian Warbler 2 Purple Finch (?) feeding on larches of Wilbur Purset Backed Thrush Singing Song Sparrow in patch of berries, Vestride, corner Pres. Rd., campus. Flown east toward another singing Song Sparrow. Returned shortly. White Crowned Sparrow sitting flat, not standing. Hopped OK for short distances. May have had missing or broken leg. Small flock White Crowned Sparrows E. of bridge to Agri. Dept.
