Melospiza Melodia
28.
20 April Stream N LSB, Nest Y - still 3 eggs,
no change, at 0615.
21 Apr. Bean Men's Fac Club, Nest 2 - Set recording
mike at nest 0703. Both birds in area
until 0709, one (♀, I'm pretty sure),
chipping. ♂(?) brought food at 0716,
moved across stream and sang.
Other bird came to nest 0723.
22 Apr. Stream N LSB, Nest Y - 1400 - Young
have hatched, probably this morning.
They are considerably smaller than the
white crown young.
23 Apr. Bean Men's Fac Club, Nest 2 -
Parents chipping in tree, although I
could see no reason for alarm; I went
directly to kitchen porch, not near nest.
Birds held food in bills but did not
go near nest for long time. Finally
one approached nest vicinity with food,
but left bushes about 3 ft. from nest
without it. Maybe young have left.
One adult sat in tree giving notes ranging
from the typical raspy call-note to a
high pitched shrill including a "chuck"
of intermediate pitch, and other notes I
cannot describe.
24 Apr. Stream N LSB, Nest Y - Young very
small. Raise and leg when I touch
nest.
