Melospiza melodia Song Sparrow 29 Mar. NE Side Women's Fac Club - Pair in courtship behavior. Flew to N E corner held in dense brush. 2 Apr. NE W Men's Fac Club - Found a nest with 1 egg. It is in ferny middle between Men's Fac. Club + stream. See notes for 25 Mar. NW Women's Fac Club - Song Sparrow, ♂ & ♀ thick, near stream. Gradually moved into bushes bordering lawn. ♂ flew in suddenly, attacked her violently, but only momentarily. He then sang once and flew away. She worked on around shrubs bordering lawn. Soon both were feeding close together in an Oak tree (not live oak) Stream W. of bridge between Union Fac Club - A pair of birds here act as though it is a territory. I left quietly when I arrived. ♂ flew in to investigate when other birds made a fuss. He sang several times before he left again. 5 Dec Art near corner - Flushed a bird along walk. It or another say a couple of times. I moved away a few feet, it returned to same place. It seemed to be only feeding. 3 Apr NW Women's Fac Club - A bird feeding on ground. Another flew up from base of small tree surrounded by ring Preened, shook, etc., for couple minutes. I examined the place, could find only some grasses which may be beginning of nest. Bird skipped close to me while I was looking. When I left both birds examined the place, then flew off.
