Banks, R.L. 1956 27 Mar. Rear NW corner, Veneris F.C. Club - One bird acting like & in gloomy bush near little statue. When disturbed left quietly, didn't go far, returned quickly. Trilled once after return. Must have gone out other side of bush, for I lost her & couldn't find her again. Rear Men's F.C. Club - Flushed & from ferns along path along walk by St. Men's Wall. Almost where I saw her a little while ago. Very quiet. This is almost at bend in creek. After moving around small shrubs and ferns for a few minutes got into small tree on other side of path. Fed there, probably on insects (or buds) for 10+ minutes. I had been singing in brush by bridge. Mawke approached up the walk, but the two did not get together. 28 Mar. Rear Men's F.C. Club - & singing & with broken tail on N side of house. Both went to side of field, went then court-ship display. & puffed way up, held his head high. The large spot on his white breast really stood out. He hopped around trying always to keep in front of her as she fed+ moved about. She sometimes turned away, but always turned back. It looked like a little dance the way they hopped from one side to the other. Finally they got out of sight behind a bush. A few inst I saw them they flew almost straight up, several feet nearly hill to hill. After they split up & say for several minutes, that all was quiet.
