Banks P.C. 1956 14 11 Feb, 1956 J. Schnell + I were at end of Donna Maria Way, 1.8 mis. 1 mi E. Orinda, Contra Costa Co., 750+st, doing some plant collecting. Just as we got out of car we noticed weeds moving at edge of field. On investigation nothing was there, but by a spoke mound one weed was being pulled down thru the ground. It was a dead, last year plant, unidentified. Set 2 spoke traps, one in this spot, one a couple yards away. In about 2 hours we heard one go off, and had caught a ? Bomomys lotae. Removed from trap + killed it. Only dirt in cheek pouches. It is now PCB 53. This was in the afternoon. When stuffing this animal, I was amazed at the number of mites. What have been well over a thousand.
