Berkeley R.C. 1956 Song Sparrow 5. 19 Feb. 2214 Haste ST., Berkeley two song sparrows in my backyard. 20 Feb. Near MV2, Campus. Heard song sparrow sing several tries between 8:30-9:30 A.M. Have not noticed him before. Rain today may cause his moving around. (Observed from office). 24 Feb. N. across street from LSB; along creek by stone lamp Bird singing easily chirty- notable by song. 2 high squeaky notes, one even higher, somewhat buzzy, followed by twirl of 6-8 clear notes, sometimes ending with extra twirble. Would sing for a couple minutes, stop for a couple. Across creek from NE near LSB. I singing in plum tree. Song a few tries, flew & heard singing from there. Seems to be patrolling. Saw it singing in [illegible] under lone Oak where pipes cross stream. This is 5 minutes later but I think it's same bird. Probably 100 yds stream distance from other spot seen. 27 Feb. S.W. corner Wheeler Hall. Singing bird in shrubbery 3 notes followed by a twirl on the same pitch, or a little lower. Very clean looking bird. Lifted his tail before defecating Sang for several minutes without changing position. After about 5 minutes, changed song, sang new song once, flew to ground. Moved along W side Wheeler Hall. W side corner Wheeler Hall What appears to be same bird as before, but singing a different song.
