A mystery here I lost track of him. Another bird stated singing by SW corner Wheeler Hall. Soon both were singing. Durant bird begins with 5 notes, Wheeler bird with 3. Wheeler bird hoarser. 0815: Between rear (NW) Doc. Hut and rear (SE) Union A bird singing in low bushes along stream. First 3 notes of song seemed to come from somewhere other than last point, sort of ventriloquial effect. Often gave a trill only, or a trill preceded by a chip. Another bird sang a few times, closer to Union. First bird moved, heard his trill to S. side of Union. Maybe two song sparrows very close together here. Rear (NE) Faculty Bldg., campus. Faint beginning of song sparrow song. Later one saw a few times. In a few minutes one sang a few times along stream, a little ways E. of Fac. Bldg. NE corner Physics Bldg., S. of Antho. Hrs. A bird singing from ground. Small bunch of shrubs here, does not offer much ground nesting cover. Only saw the one bird. Main entrance Ags. Bldg. P1 of Calif. Jays using song sparrow's usual perch here. Could not find any sparrows.
