24 January 1956
On P.M. of 23 Jan. set 21 mus. sp., 5 rat traps,
2 gopher traps near corner of Buckingham Blvd and
Bristol Drive, Berkeley Hills, Oakland, Alameda Co.,
Calif. Gopher traps + 4 mus.sp. in grassy field,
nothing caught. Rest in Pine or edge of Pine,
some Bacchanis near. One rat trap set on fallen
log in area of low brush. Log was covered
with droppings, evidently a runway, and was
rotted. May have been followed out some + used
as rest or runways. Caught 2 Peromyscus californicus
with 2 embryos here. Got two Peromyscus
troeri, one ? in Pine (near edge) one ? in Bacchanis.
Caught these and picked up traps 24th A.M. Many
traps sprung, probably due to heavy rain in night.
4 Feb. 1956
Set 21 Mus. specials, 5 rat traps 1.6mi S., 1 mi E Orinda
about 3 soft. Mostly heavy brush, near lots of wood
rat houses. Caught only 1 ? Peromyscus troeri.
It was in a brushy spot, less than 10 ft. from a
wood rat house. Kicked apart some houses, no
signs of occupancy. Lots of varied thrushes
in area. Signs of deer, cattle, & man, lots of
game trails (?)
