Banks R.C. 1956 Song Sparrow 2, 10 Feb. Main Entrance to Ag. Bldg., campus Song Sparrow (S) singing atop Jhaya. Flew to lower perch, continued singing after pedestrians passed. I had heard this bird from about 100 yds. Very loud. Clean looking, bright bird. Robin momentarily chased him off perch, I think just passing by. Immediately returned, continued singing. Tune in seconds at which he sang follows: 56-9-23-36- 47-56-4-10-20-27-35-41-51-01-9-16-25- 37-49(new song)-59-8-16-25-35-42. Tune's mark beginnings of songs, which lasted about 3 seconds. Songs delivered from a willow (?) tree about 15 yds. from first perch, 7+ from second. Stopped singing for several minutes. Reappeared singing about half way to top in perch 1. This mate was feeding quietly on ground between perches #1 and #2. She went under tree of perch #1 when I approached. Did not return again. This may be a good pair to work on: S has at least 2 songs, sings loudly, could be recorded, the back- ground noise is great. Along creek just N. of Wilson & Pres. Rd. Heard bird singing, not loud, by road bridge. Another bird (S) by foot bridge fattern up. S stopped singing and a S say by foot bridge. Another S day by road
