Zonotrichia l. metalli
4 June
Corner Oxford Center, Nest R(w)
1905 L-1 19.7 gm. 8+9 Prim. 22 mm.
Began to chip as soon as I touched it. Others were quiet. Both adults & this young made great fuss w/ alarm notes.
Primary sheaths not quite covered by extended part of 3pc's. Headstripe shows well. Ventral coverts not quite covered. One adult picked at my hand while covering nest & operate others from leaves.
R-3 21.0 gm. 8+9 Prim. 21 mm.
As above, Crown stripe not as visible, primary sheaths a little more covered.
Not much difference,
L-3 17.6 gm. 8+9 Prim. 20 mm.
Head stripe less developed & prim.
sheaths less covered than either
above. Breast streaking shows well
on all of them.
Did not see or get R-1.
Barque Lane, Nest S(w)
935 R-1 5.1 gm.
Dark on flank & on thigh. Back, crown,
hand & abula leading edge. Ventral tract
(upper part) a little darkened. Primaries
budding.
R-3 5.4 gm. Spots in same areas,
but not as plain - appear to be deeper under
skin. Primaries just budded as much.
Quill & Durant Nest T (S)
No change at 2000. Definitely incubating.
