Banks 1957 Zonotrichia l. nuttallii 40. 28 April Inside Edwards Field, West Cc all back flash + abdomen out. Left 1,3,4, 5,7+9 Primaries, all st primaries out. All other wing feathers but prim covert's out. Sits on rump (belly) + sides + toes. Grasped my fingers, t nest. R-4 17.6 gm. Prim. 15 mm. Right 1,3,+6 Prim out, all left out. Rectrices seem to have grown suddenly, as 1-3 mm, still in sheath. Many head feathers out, not as many as R-3. w.t. after defecation 17.3 gm. Sits same as others. Have protest notes after second weighing. 1825 Bancroft West J Heard birds legging as 2 went in under bushes. R-1 9.7 gm. Primaries out 4 mm. Very active on balance; threw himself on backwards legging. All feather tracts very well defined Sits on abdomen, sides, + chin, often falls backward. This little bird always seems to be a top in the nest. R-3 20.3 gm. Prim. 14 mm. Clung tightly to nest. Gaped at first in my hand, then crouched in typical posture - neck drawn in, head down, wings forward + down. Left second primary barely out. No head + back-of- neck feathers out. L-3 20.1 gm. Prim. 17 mm. Gaped in my hand; then crouched head down, same position as R-3.
