Zonotrichia l. nuttalli 34 17 April Barrow Lane opp S. and Allen Bldg. Heard and saw a bird here again, but didn't look for nest. Soon the same (?) bird was singing on W side of storehouse. Here I found the remains of 6 old bird nests in a line of trees, but found no new nests. S. side Grounds + Bldgs. Nest E. ? Incubating, only 3 eggs. Inside NW Corner Edwards Field, Nest G. 1745 R-1 10.8gm. Prim. 3 mm. Secondaries 2-3 Eyes open. All feather tracts well thru skin, shivered + crouched in my hand. Head trait landygt. R-3 12.9gm. Prim. all close to 5 mm, Head feathers barely thru, others all out. R-4 12.3 gm. Prim. 3-4mm, Eyes open. Action + feather development similar on all - crouched + shivered, little or no gaping. Very nixdy + chilly, Nest C 180 hrs. R-1 6.9 gm. Primaries just bumps thru skin. Very active gaping. Holds head up straight between gapes. No movement or sound stimulates gaping. L-3 6.4 gm. Primaries back thru. R-3 6.4 gm, || All three birds gaped whenever I reached into nest, and really stretched up. All very similar in action + development but R-1 seems a little ahead on wings.
