on tonsi + back (ventral part) of abdomen.
Gaped very determinedly, esp. when touched.
Dark spots that will be feathers are very
evident inc. a few now on ant. part of
ventral tract, where 2 lateral tracts
join. Faint noises when legging.

Feather spotting (see
above) not quite as definite. This bird
also gaped, sitting only on ventral part
of body. No sound heard,

about R-3, except spots for feathers not
as definite under throat. No sounds
but active gaping.

breast + rest of wings, just above tibiae,

These birds are all at precisely the
same stage judging from appearance.
All gaped; all had trouble staying right
side up; tended to fall on back or sides.
