When just placed in my hand it stayed crunched, neck in (opposite of extended), head and neck horizontal. Was active on balance. Next in my hand, crawled very definitely. No gaping, no sounds. First weight 15.8 - defecated on balance and while going back to nest. Re-weighed, weight 15.3. Unmarked bird gaped when I parted bushes. Both appear to be about ready to break their secondary coverts. Yesterday that marked bird was out some- don't think they are today. Height of this nest 49" (4ft +1") 1800 hrs. Marked 18.5 gm Prim 13 mm Unmarked 12.7 gm. Prim. 12 mm. Marked- Some back + flank feathers out of sheaths. Lesser Sec. Coverts also out. Crunched in my hand, head away down. Fairly quiet in nest. Unmarked- Every few flank + back feathers are all that are out of sheaths. This one doesn't crouch as low. A few coverts are barely out. Both quiet as long as they have something to hold on to, every finger. But on smooth balance pan they try to move.
