Bird singing from top of Adm Bldg after bird trilling in Live Oak across street. Singing bird flew to same tree. Both birds very disturbed as I explored Ceanothus bush, where there is an old nest, but nothing new. May be too early for this pair. They have moved [illegible] to the border of the territory (?) adjoining nest E's territory. Much trilling + singing going on. SE corner Univ. + Fulton, Vest & F Marked 15.6 gm. Prim. 8 mm. Unmarked 15.7 gm. Prim. 8 mm. 1800 hrs. Marked bird gaped first, but [illegible] followed soon when I parted bushes. Marked bird has secondary coverts barely out of sheath. Same as unmarked Melospiza. Unmarked bird defecated as I took him from nest. This one has no feathers out of sheath yet. Both birds held onto nest. Both were very active on the balance. Greenhouse area, Vest B Wt. 12.3 gm. Primaries 4 mm. No feathers breaking thru sheath yet. Did not gape at mirror. Very quiet in my hand & on balance. Seemed very weak. 1805 hrs. Seemed to hold on to nest.
