Zonotrichia l. mutabilis 22 Mar, '57 Barcroft along Athletic Field, Upper Sec. 7:10 found nest w/ 2 eggs along this section. Mate of bird in singing duel not far from nest. I cannot very reluctant to leave. NW corner Women's Gym, U.C. Campus, Berkeley A pair in thick juniper here between walk and building. Very quiet, at least one fluked out of these bushes. Barrow Lane, opp. N and Adam. Bldg. A pair feeding here at same location as nest f- last year, 7:45 A.M. N of Home Ec. + Forestry Parking Lot, by Garbonera A nest here w/ 3 eggs. A bird on or near nest. Near fence, in thick brush growing in fence. The nest is high 6 ft. Had to climb to see about eggs, About 8:30 A.M. S.E. corner of Fulton + University Ave., Berkeley A bird singing from live oaks in this clump of trees + shrubs. No sign of mate, the bird flew to slope W. side of Forestry Bldg. but shortly returned resumed singing, 8:45 A.M. Corner Atherton + Channing, Berkeley Absalon, Calif. Jay Schnell heard a bird under streetlight line at 7:45 P.M. last night. This morning at 6:20 there was one singing here also. Later, about 8:45 or 9:00 I heard a bird in the area. 23 Mar, '57. Waste + Fulton, Berkeley. At 6:30 A.M. a bird singing on NE corner. Flew to NW, coments sang, then flew & along N side Waste to first (2205) lawn, began to feed. Chased 2 English Sparrows; all 3 birds flew into tree (first tree on Waste). Soon this bird sang several times from top. Then disappeared.
