1957
Zonotrichia leucophrys nuttalli
6.
18 March
S.W. corner Edwards Field, Berkeley, Alameda Co., Calif.
minutes later I was singing + a was feeding
on lawn. I gave trill. A dog came - one
bird gave sharp alarm note, was seen on
sloping part of wall (end of bleachers). This
note is the call one typically heard when the
birds are alarmed at a close danger. Last year
it was given mainly when I was in the
immediate area of the nest. It is a sharp
"chirr", dropping a little but essentially 1 tone.
Now, 2 min after dog left, both birds are
gone.
22 March 1957
Between Fulton Street, between Dwight & Bancroft.
A bird feeding + chipping in the lawn here, &
sided street. Flew to bushes across street
past EB MUD parking lot, back of small house.
Athletic Field, Lower Section
When I arrived a bird across street at 2214.
Later I thought there may be 2 pairs near.
Don't know. Right now a bird chipping
near lower columns and big solar. This is a
while, disappears a while.
Another pair at upper end of this section. One on
wall joined one on ground and both fed moving
W. Can into other pair; once came back, are
now with other birds. No chase involved.
Upper Section ath Field along Bancroft
A bird sitting on wall near upper end flew W, almost
immediately returned to another. Shortly engaged
in singing duel with a bird along Barra by Warrio
Dym.
