Bach 1957 Zontrichá & nettallí 5. 16 Mar.'57 Dana St. along Men's Gym, U.C. Campus, Berkeley two birds were having verbal duel, songs coming about every 7 sec. The one on the gym was chased by a brown tanker, and quit singing, but the other continued. Bird on gym disappeared then. By 6 P.M., the other quit singing also. Light is fading now. Bancroft, just W. of Corner of Dana Berkeley Calif. Same bird mentioned above. Resumed singing, 2 moved down to corner. It quit again. Saw 2 birds in bushes about 15 yds. from corner of wall. Farther W. to lower end of center section of athletic field, saw or heard 2 more pairs. 18 March. N.E. Corner Durant & Ellsworth, Berkeley As I walked here toward Bancroft, where the area next to sidewalk is heavily planted, a white crow flew from one bush to another, it flew after a song sparrow nearby. Soon saw an apparently 1st year bird - crown still dark - feeding between street & sidewalk. Heard just a snatch of song from the area. Many English Sparrows + House Finches around. S.W. Corner Edwards Field Berkeley, Alameda, Calif. a singing bird. Stayed generally on wall and on pillars surrounding plaque. Occasionally inside field sang several minutes. Descended to lawn & fed about 1 min., went back to wall & sang, then flew W. to small tree & continued singing. For long while couldn't find it. Finally walked in closer to bushes.
