Zonotrichia leucophrys 29 May 20 Barrow Lane Nest F The banding Designates the birds thus R4 = W.6 R3 = W.9 L4 = W.8 L3 = W.7 May 21 Visited the nest at 1730 but just looked. Feathers out, and the light tipping gives a dark-light striped appearance. There is a fairly well defined light stripe down the middle of the crown. May 22 Visited the nest shortly after 1500 hrs. All 4 birds still in nest. Picked up W-9 who was on top. Appears to be completely feathered, Yellowish-tan stripe shows plainly on crown. Very active & tried to escape. While I was holding him one bird left, and when I put him back the others left. They left explosively, with a combination of hopping, jumping, and flying. All remained in the clump containing the nest. The parents, at least one, was very disturbed, and followed me clear across the street, where I stood to watch. The young actually fly a few feet. 23 May 0730 Adults very much alarmed. They chipped constantly, around the bush which holds the nest; and around another about 20 ft. away. Both parents gathered food. Could not see any young ones.
