Banks 1951 Zonotrichia leucophrys. 27. 19 May Barrow Lake Nest F note is almost a shrill, compared about 6 notes or sounds given in rapid succession. When they did this, the parents, who were already chipping & hooting about in a nearby bush, really went wild. Their reaction did not last long however. The birds resisted being picked up by grasping the nest or the rock I weighed them in but once in my hand were fairly still. They did, however, crawl a little while I was holding them. The wing feathers are just barely (1mm) out of the sheaths, but most of the body feathers are almost completely out. One bird is a little farther advanced in this than the other. The tail feathers are prominent almost out of their sheaths. Wing feathers + sheaths about 20 mm long. 20 May. Weighed these birds about 17.00 hrs. L-3 jumped out of the nest and got away, giving a couple of fear notes that set the parents wild. Am astonished at the weights today. Either they stopped gaining or my weights yesterday are all off. Primaries and wing feathers are about 3 mm out of sheaths. Most feathers are completely out, or at least give the appearance of full feathering. R4's primaries are light tipped, but [illegible] and R3's are uniform dark. At 18.00 hrs, returned to band them. L-3 was back in the nest. But they all landed OK.
