23. 12 May 1956 Bancroft along Aith Rd. Caster Sec. - Bird singing from Poplan, lower part of section. One or two birds chirping while I was in area. When I parted the branches to look, they (3 of them) raised up and gaped, but almost immediately put their heads down. One bird is under the others and can hardly raise his head. They made no sound that I could tell hear. 14 May One of the parent birds chased a Passer domesticus out of the area about 15 ft from the nest, just as I arrived this morning at 0715 POST. Aside from that there was no activity around the nest. There was not much change from yesterday. The birds are a little more active, but still raise and gape only momentarily before assuming "nest" position. In one I removed from the nest the eyes were not yet open but the beginning of feather tracts could be seen under the skin of the head and where the primaries will come.
