Banka 1956 20. Zonotrichia leucophrys 18 Apr. Bancroftalagath.Fd, Lower Sa, Nest B.- Tried to record these four young today. The noise they made was so quiet however, I could barely hear it a foot or so away. Today their eyes are open a little, not much more than a slit. When I touch the nest they raise up and open their mouths. Feather quills are through the skin, but not much. 19 Apr. The young today raised up and legged when I looked at nest. Inside of mouth and throat is red (crimson?) and the yellow of the bill gives a lining to it. Feather shafts are out about a cm. on wings (primaries) but only 3 or 4 mm. on the other feather tracts. One I took out of the nest sat quietly, no sound and no effort to creep. The adult, & I think, who chipped violently while I was at the nest has a band on lar leg. This is W-3 if it is one I landed. I have seen W-3 with W-2 in the center section of this strip, acting like paired birds with a nest. NW corner track field inside: 8 singing from wall about 20 ft. from Nest C. 9 flew up from geraniums below him, and both flew away. I could find no nest.
